Designed by the Swiss-French Architect Le Corbusier Chandigarh is a union territory and capital of two states i.e. Punjab and Haryana. Punjab covers the maximum part of the city and the Eastern is covered by Haryana.

In 2015 an article published by the BBC named Chandigarh as one of the perfect cities of the world in terms of architecture, cultural growth and modernization. The city was declared the cleanest city of the country and has one of the higher per capita income.

The name Chandigarh is derived from the Hindu Goddess Chandi. Here ‘Chandi’ refers to ‘Goddess’ and ‘Garh’ means ‘Fortress’.

Being the dream city of first Prime Minister of India Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru the city is located near the foothills of the Sivalik Mountain range of the Himalayas in northwest India. After independence the city was handed over to the American architecture.

Chandigarh has a humid subtropical climate which makes its weather conditions suitable to live all throughout the year. The summers are very hot but winters are mild and rainfall can be witnessed throughout the year due to western disturbances.

One can witness a huge variety of wildlife and vegetation as most of Chandigarh is covered with banyan and eucalyptus plantations. The city has forest surroundings and Deer’s, Sambhar, parrots, woodpecker, peacocks can be found.

The city of Chandigarh is also known for its artificial lake, The Sukhna Lake. It is a place where one can do boating with ducks. The World famous Rock Garden resides as a pearl in beauty of the city. Located near the lake the rock garden has numerous sculptures made up of waste materials, mudguards, forks, handles, bars, metal wires etc. the garden is also known as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden as he started this secretly.

There are more eye catching places to visit in the city such as The Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, which contains nearly 825 variety of roses and more than 32,500 varieties of medicinal plants. For leisure activities one can move to the Elante mall.

Chandigarh has a rich lifestyle and its people are known for its style statement. Some world famous personalities and talents which reside in Chandigarh are Milkha Singh, Neerja Bhanot, Kapil Dev, comedian Jaspal Bhatti, writer Piare Lal Sharma and many more.

The city possesses peace and prosperity as its One Hand Monument is the symbol of unity of mankind. One must visit the city to experience luxury and culture.
