One of the fastest developing cities of India, Agartala is the capital of North Eastern state of Tripura. Agartala is the second largest city in the field of both area and population in the seven sister's region.

The city is named Agartala after the abundance of Agarwood trees in the region. The city lies on the banks of river Haora and is in close vincity to the border of Bangladesh. Agartala became the capital of Tripura in the year of 1972 when Tripura became a part of India.

Places to visit in Tripura include Tripura Government museum, Malancha Niwas, Nehru Park, Tribal Research Institute, Tripura state Tribal Museum and Ummaneshwar Temple. Other places of interest include Haveli Museum, Jagannath Bari, ISKCON Temple and Ujjyanta Palace.
